Technology has evolved a lot in the past period of time. Fujitsu recently introduced at CES 2012, a tablet which accepts hand gestures. There are also numerous tablets which can be commanded with the aid of the voice. Now, Tobii wants to use eye-tracking in order to command the tablets, laptops, and so on. Tobii created a device which has infrared sensor and lights.

The light illuminates the eyes of the user, thus creating a reflection on the back of the retina. Then the sensor takes rapid images of the eye in order to create a 3-D model of them. According to the company who made the product, the eye tracking is very precise, and that it can track the eye of the user exactly.

The company proved the efficiency of the product on a laptop with Windows 8. They stated that with the aid of the eyes and of the track pad, navigating on the computer has never been so easy. You can use your eyes in order to select the folder or the files, and you can use the track pad in order to perform the desired action. It seems that Windows 8 is not the only Windows operating system which is compatible with the technology.

You can interact with the files in numerous manners. For example, in case you blink, an action will take place. The company stated that this technology has been designed for the users who are disabled, and who would like to use the computer. However, they also stated that it could be used by surgeons as well. For example they could use their eyes in order to perform certain actions on the computer while they are operating, which would allow them to keep both of their hands occupied.

The technology is pretty expensive, as it cost several thousand dollars in order to purchase it. However, the company stated that they hope to be able to make it cheaper, so it becomes more accessible to the public. It is believed that the product could be very useful for people who suffer from various conditions, such as autism for example. People who suffer from attention deficit disorder could also benefit from it. It will be interesting to see the way in which this technology will evolve in the future, and if it will become as popular as the company behind it hopes it will be.
